Head of Compliance
Role
We are looking to hire a seasoned general counsel who has experience advising companies in a spectrum of legal matters. Preferred areas of experience include commercial contracts, equity financings, SEC reporting and compliance, real estate transactions, privacy/data security, IP, and corporate governance. You will work closely with lane leads across the company, advising on legal risks, business strategies and other compliance issues related to our core business. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives with autonomy and ambiguity, and has a passion for making real estate investing accessible to everyone. Fintor is a fast growing start-up, which means that this role will be dynamic in nature. Flexibility, drive and resourcefulness are critical for success. We are looking for a self-starter who thrives under pressure, enjoys a fast-paced work environment. This position reports directly to the Co-Founder and CEO.
Tasks
- Advise on legal risks, business strategies, and compliance issues related to Fintor’s core business
- Help build the necessary tools, systems and processes to support Fintor’s growth
- Work closely with the executive team to assist in the preparation of SEC offering documents and report filing
- Assist with various state filings
- Help draft and review a variety of intricate commercial contracts
- Advise on debt and equity transactions
- Research potential future legal issues that could impact Fintor, and develop counter-strategies
- Ensure legal compliance on all financial and regulatory functions
- and maintain clean, tested, and well-documented code.
Ideal Candidate
- Admitted to practice in California or the ability to register as In-House Counsel in California
- 5+ years relevant SEC reporting, securities law and compliance, and general corporate law experience
- 3+ years experience in financial regulatory compliance, preferably in fintech/banking
- Experience building and implementing compliance programs and interacting with financial regulators
- Familiarity with KYC and AML
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparing & presenting decks to executive leadership as well as Board of Directors
- Willingness to work hard and get your hands dirty at a fast-growing startup
- Desire to do what it takes to help Fintor succeed
